The Chief of Police
Derrick Diggs is a professional law enforcement manager and administrator for the Toledo, Ohio Police Department. During his thirty-five years with the department, he has risen through the ranks and was appointed Chief of Police on October 21, 2011.
Twenty-six of his thirty-five years of service have been as an administrator/manager/ supervisor. His progressive experiences include serving as Deputy Chief of Investigative Services Division, Deputy Chief of Operations Division, Deputy Chief of Support Services Division, Internal Affairs Commander, District Commander, Section Commander, Recruitment Commander, Public Affairs Commander, Field Operations Commander, Special Weapons & Tactics Team Commander, Administrative Sergeant, Drug Enforcement Sergeant, Community Affairs Sergeant, Metro Drug Agent, Vice Squad Detective and Patrol Officer.
Chief Diggs developed the Toledo Police Department’s Mountain Bike Patrol Unit and the Gang Task Force Unit. In addition, he successfully implemented and monitored several Community Oriented Policing programs and strategies for the Toledo Police Department. He also successfully developed and implemented Neighborhood and Park Watch programs for the City of Toledo.
Chief Derrick Diggs has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Sociology from Adrian College (Adrian, Michigan), and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from The University of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio). He is a graduate of the Police Law Enforcement Executive College (Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
