The Toledo Police Wellness Program. This very important program continues year in and year out and encompasses all the officers on the department. |
| The Academy conducts Pursuit Driving Training for all officers assigned to the Operations Division. This training takes place in new vehicles that have been specially equipped for that purpose. |

The Academy sponsors the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) program, with classes of new volunteers graduating at frequent intervals. The week-long training instructs senior citizens in a wide range of law enforcement topics to help prepare them for their duties in the program. |
| The 2008 Citizens Police Academy started in September and will run for 9 weeks. The training will provide an overview of the police functions to 26 members of our community. |

The Crisis Intervention Team Training Academy took place in September 2008. The CIT officers received in-depth training from professionals in the mental health field. |
Mandatory in-service training courses completed during the year included:
Use of Force Continuum/ASP Certification and Taser training;
Quick action deployment (Quad) training;
Wellness training;
Ground fighting and handcuffing techniques;
Legal update;
Firearms Qualification with scenario based training, designed to train officers in real-life situations which require the implementation of learned skills and quick thinking as the incident evolves;
All hazards training.
Many more courses were offered in addition to the 24-hour mandatory training. Several elective courses were offered to police officers from the Toledo Police Department, as well as other jurisdictions in our region. Some examples include:

Elderly abuse investigations
Fingerprinting crime scenes
Customer Service
Adapt/Driving under the influence
From the Ohio Attorney General's office, firearms investigations;
Crime scene management;
School violence:
Spanish for law enforcement;
Retrieving cell phone data;
OPOTA instructional skills update;
AR-15/M-16 armories training;
Robbery/Burglary investigations training;
Leadership;
Basic Computer Operations;
Edged Weapons/Ground Fighting.
In addition, the Toledo Police Academy co-hosted many training sessions with the Public Agency Training Council from Indianapolis, Indiana. The instructors for the courses are all highly qualified and experienced in a wide array of police related subject matter. Over thirty different sessions were held and each received very favorable evaluations.
