(S.W.A.T. Team)

Lieutenant Daniel Schultz
Commander

The Directed Patrol Section (DP) began in the mid 1980's with officers targeting suppressible crimes, i.e., robberies, and burglaries. By the late 1980's and early 1990's the unit had expanded to executing search warrants for drugs and barricade entry’s. In 2006 the DP unit’s main focus will be on executing search warrants, barricade entry’s, and the suppression of crime involving gangs and other young offenders. Additional duties performed by the DP unit include assisting the United States Secret Service with dignitary protection for the President of The United States, presidential candidates, and foreign leaders. The unit is also part of a Fugitive Task Force working daily to apprehend wanted felons.

The Directed Patrol unit is comprised of one Lieutenant, four Sergeants and 29 Police Officers. The unit is a 24-hour, 365 days a year operation. All officers must successfully complete a 120 Hr. basic SWAT training course and participate in additional training every month. During training every officer must become proficient with several weapons including the AR-15 and MP5. Every officer also trains to become proficient in the deployment of distraction devices and several types of gas.
