Police Department Honor Guard 2008 |
The Toledo Police Honor Guard was established as a formal unit in 1985. Prior to that time, the department assembled four to six officers from street duty to perform Color Guard duties as needed. In 1985, Deputy Chief John Bryan recognized the need for a formal Color Guard Unit and tasked then Sergeant Nathanael Ford with the assignment of creating the unit.
Since its inception, the Honor Guard has represented all members of the Toledo Police Department at funerals of any prior or current officer who died after faithfully serving our community. The Honor Guard also represents the Toledo Police Department during parades, civic events, and other ceremonies that require precision and professionalism. The Honor Guard travels to Washington D.C. each year to represent our community at the National Police Memorial Service held on National Police Memorial Day, which was established as May 15th by President John F. Kennedy.
