The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad
(NOBS) is made up of eight officers drawn from
various sections of the Toledo Police Department and includes
trained bomb
techs from the Maumee Police Department and the Bowling Green
State University Police Department. A strong working relationship also exists with the
Area County Sheriff
Departments. The bomb
squad has become a regional
resource with the addition of these valuable officers.
The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad is tasked with responding to and
rendering safe all explosive-related items reported. Limited post-blast investigations assistance is also provided.
The unit responds to calls for service from local, state and federal agencies.
Since its beginning in 1977, the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad has
steadily expanded to become one of the best equipped bomb squads in the state. New equipment acquisitions include a
Lugo's Xray, new bomb suits, and a new Andros robot.
Regularly scheduled in-house training and periodic refresher courses at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama enable the HDG to maintain a high degree of readiness.
