The Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol volunteer will go out into the community and check on shut-ins who have been identified for the department by individual requests and other agency referrals. Those chosen may also be required to perform vacation house checks also. They will do this during daytime hours from (0800 hours through 1600 hours), Monday through Friday. Volunteers will be assigned a Toledo Police vehicle and a roster of individuals/residences to check in their assigned area. These volunteers will simply be a "good neighbor" and check on the safety and well being of those people and homes on their roster and complete the necessary paperwork to document the visit. The volunteer must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and write clear, concise and legible reports on their activities. If there is a problem, the shut-in's packet will contain contact phone numbers/key holders names and doctor's information. The volunteer will be responsible for attempting contact with this person and informing on-duty police supervisors. Those chosen must be available for periodic training, procedural updates and evaluations. Volunteers may need to refer citizens to social service agencies to assist with that citizen's particular problem.
