Mission:

The Special Victims Unit investigates all sexually motivated/related crimes in the City of Toledo.

History:

In May of 2000, Chief Michael Navarre decided that there was a need to form a specialized unit that specifically handled sex crimes. Forming this unit ensured that all investigations were done in the same relative way. Ensuring that the victim’s receive the justice and attention they deserve.

Unit Information:

The Special Victims Unit is comprised of five investigators and one sergeant who report directly to the lieutenant in charge of the Crimes Against Persons Section. The Special Victims Unit is located at the Northwest District Station, 2330 W. Sylvania Avenue.

Statistics:

Since its inception, the Special Victims Unit has logged more than 1400 reports. Rape, Sexual Battery, Unlawful Sexual Conduct With a Minor, Gross Sexual Imposition, Sexual Imposition, Public Indecency and Internet related sex crimes are examples of the crimes that the Special Victims Unit investigates.
