Every summer the Toledo Police Department sponsors the Safe-T-City Program at no cost. This program is safetycityheld at the Scott Park Shelter House, 2201 Nebraska Avenue, next to the Scott Park District Station.

Safe-T-City is a child pedestrian and traffic safety program combined with a life safety course. This program is conducted for children entering kindergarten in the up-coming school year. Safe-T-City includes classroom instruction and outdoor practice in a miniature city complete with streets, sidewalks, small buildings, traffic lights and stop signs.

The children are assigned to classes (no more than 15 children per class) with a certified instructor. During the 20 hour course, the children learn through participation in a setting of simulated real-life situations. Guest speakers from different community resources help the children learn through songs, poems, art projects, stories, and movies. Police officers teach pedestrian safety on the streets of Safe-T-City. The different lessons provide an enjoyable learning experience.

TORCH Program

We also have a program for developmentally delayed children and those children with special needs. This program is for children in kindergarten through third grade.

Teacher Assistants

Students who are entering the 6th grade or higher can apply to be a teacher's assistant.
